I don’t remember quite where I was when 1:59 rolled over to 3 AM. There’s a chance I was just getting home, but I’m fairly sure that I’d arrived at my apartment a half hour previously, having staggered through my front door still slightly tipsy and gripping a sandwich bag full of rapidly melting ice cubes.
Why ice cubes? Because as we were saying our good-byes and checking out of TequilaCon, Asia pointed out that she’d tracked down the ice machine and filled three buckets with ice for our drinks and nobody had used any. I decided to show my appreciation for her efforts then and there by scooping up a double-handful of ice and declaring that I was taking it home with me. She helpfully provided a spare plastic baggy to take my short-lived souvenirs home in.
Why TequilaCon? Why not? What a wild ride! The story of how I get mixed up in all this in the first place will have to wait for another time, but suffice it to say I met a lot of cool people and am going to have to double the size of my blogroll as a result. I also got some good leads on sci-fi books from Dave and Dustin, to whom I promised I’d write about some of the books I’m reading instead of my usual fare about being pissed off or hung over.
There’s plenty more to be said about TequilaCon…just not tonight. I can only take so many drinks in a weekend these days. Also I suppose I should spend some time sprucing up the site a little.
Oh, and by the way: you guys are awesome. Thanks for everything.

I’m glad you came along to protect me all those months ago.
Brandon’s not nearly as creepy as I thought he might be.
March 12th, 2007 on 7:20 am
Really? Because I thought Brandon was exactly as creepy as I had thought he would be… and then some!

You got ice in your baggie? So not fair!! Mine only had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. *sigh*
It was great meeting everyone!

Blast meeting you, though we didn’t really get to talk that much. I’m a huge sci-fi geek, too, so it would have been really beneficial to hang with you guys in Powell’s.

Great meeting you!!

I had SO much fun with everyone – it was really great to hang out with you! And even more fun to carry you…
You and Sibyl also deserve a huge thanks for helping Brandon find the absolute perfect venue – the Kennedy School was a blast!

That was awful sweet of you to take my ice. I wont forget it.

Sorry everyone, the horrible thing called ‘real life’ has been interfering with my internet life the last couple of days. That, and I was hung over.
Sibyl: I’m glad I tagged along too. And by creepy you mean…?
Dave2: You, my friend, are the shiznit. Thanks for dropping by. I’ll admit he might seem a little creepy at first, but once you’ve had a few drinks and let him feel you up, he gets a lot better.
Shari: That’s the sort of bizarre quixotic dedication I have to my fellow bloggers, and if that means getting to carry home a sandwich baggy full of ice, so be it. Great to meet you!
Karl: Wish we could have talked more, especially since it turns out you’re into the sci-fi. Seriously dude, we need to talk shop.
Jessica: Fantastic meeting you as well! I can hardly wait for the next ‘Con.
Jenny: You are as awesome as reputed to be and then some. I am still in awe that you carried me, I mass more than some small Volkswagens. And as for the research, it was hard work, sure, but look at the pay-off!
Asia: I’d take your ice any night of the week, and hope we can share drinks again sometime soon.
Guest post coming soon. Also, check it: gravatars! I still have some debugging to do but they mostly seem to be up and running.

I know we did not get much time to talk (because I can’t ever just sit still) but it was enjoyable meeting you and I hope to see you again next year!

Hey Hilly, it was great to meet you too. Next year, absolutely, I will be bringing my A-game.
