weekend edition
If not for a few days spent on the east coast in May this last weekend I would have set some sort of personal record for miles traveled and bloggers visited. It all started out in Seattle with Daveattle (appropriately enough).
I knew Dave and Dustin, obviously, and Sizzle was a fellow TequilaCon alum, but everyone else was new to me and so I got a chance to meet Matt and Scott and Nicole and Patty and Tracy and Chris, and The Fella and Bryan who were great fun even if I can’t link to them. Kristin arrived and brought glittery tattoos, and we all set about looking for clean, dry hairless patches of skin and documenting the process with dozens of photos. Hilarity ensued.
The next day found me back on the road, having recognized that state in myself where I’m close to going mad if I don’t get to breathe in great big lungfulls of sea air, and so I wound up in Cannon Beach where I finally got a chance to see Mad William’s gallery. We had a few beers and some oysters at the local tavern, and spent some time chatting about Oregon coastal life and San Diego and art and of course favorite blog reads, and all the people we were lucky to know through blogging. Oh, and I brought my new charges along with me, and they were remarkably well behaved, not quacking once during our lunch.
It was a fantastic weekend all around. And I slept like a baby that night and am only just now updating my blog, which is why you’re getting a weekend update on a Tuesday morning.
Oh man, your duckies have met Mad William??! You’re taking much better care of yours than I have been. Mine have scarcely been out of the house since they arrived! Now I feel neglegent, so I’m going to have to plan a duckie adventure. Way to raise the bar, there, Vahid.
That looks like so much fun! I really am going to make it to one of these eventually! Hopefully before we’re all retired…
Man. I sure do miss the coastal Northwest.
Damn it, Vahid! Stop making me yearn!
I’m sort of jealous about the Mad William outing. You know, “jealous” in the silly way where I still am really thrilled that you got to see his gallery ;).
Quack.
Jealous.
hang on, i just signed up for the grav thing. let’s see if it worked…
DAMMIT.
I blame you.
(Sorry for the comment spam.)
I ran into Mad William when the Fella and I were in that wonderful coastal town but we didn’t get to have beers with him, sadly. The blogging world really brings people together.
Good to see you again!
I covet your patchwork duck.
“Clean, dry, hairless patch of skin”. That’s what the directions said.
I can’t think of one person found said patch.
shari, you mean to tell me you didn’t take your duckies out with you when you went rock climbing or bear fighting or whatever it is you did over the weekend? That was totally your chance to one up me.
kyra, if you just move to the PacNW, your chances of this happening will go up dramatically, hint hint. Or you can hold out for Davemont.
sir, I will make you yearn until you burn. this will not be the same as that OTHER familiar burning sensation.
hilly, well you should be. his gallery was wicked awesome.
jennie!, don’t you start them up, I just finally got them to settle down for bed.
abigail, it’s clearly all my fault. I admit it.
sizzle, it’s a shame, they had some good beer at Bill’s Tavern.
dave2, my patchwork duck is all mine, although these three may be traveling with me this summer.
matt, if they hadn’t demanded that all three conditions be met I would have been in there.
taking the ducklings out drinking? awesome.
They said the beach was nice and all, but really they were hoping for a sports bar. Good thing I have more outings planned.
Take the duckies drinking immediately made me think Take The Skinheads Bowling. I think I may need to adjust my meds.
Looks like a good time was had by all. Lots of fun.
Yay! I made it work! Now what excuse will I use to comment whore?
Tracy Lynn, I just got finished adjusting my meds. Whiskey is a form of medicine, right?
Karl, it was lots of fun.
Abigail, I always knew you had it in you.
Oh you guys say such things.
Always a pleasure to see the Fist. A class act.
Sorry Kat, my duckies were watching the gallery as Fist and I drank beer.
We must do it again before summers end.
(everyone is invited. You heard it here first)
Nice to meet you last weekend!! I’m glad you had a nice trip to Seattle and to the Oregon coast. I love the coast and the ocean…and wishing I could go down there soon. At least I get some vac. time in August and will get out of town a bit. I’m not going to drink like that again for a while…..I’m sure I talked your ear off.
Mad William, I will definitely take you up on that! Summer is always a good time to go drinking at the coast.
Patty, my ear was just fine. And it was nice to meet you too!
