Sometimes we go a few weeks without rain here in the winter, and with no moisture the air becomes incredibly clear.
Sometimes there’s just enough moisture to leave a few clouds in the west, though, and so as the sun begins to dip down behind the West Hills, the refracted light turns the sky in the east a deep purple.
Sometimes you’re sitting at your desk on a Friday afternoon and take note that the sunset has painted the snow on Mt Hood that same shade.
Sometimes you pick up the camera bag that you brought with you on a whim, and nonchalantly walk around the floor to the freight elevator, where you punch in the security code you recently learned to have it take you to the roof.
Sometimes you find yourself on the roof of a tall building, icy winds blowing in your hair, squinting through a viewfinder at the distant mountain and thinking, “My God but that’s a great sunset.”

I’ve been staring at it outside of our own windows all day….it’s an amazing time of year. And you must have been at the top of Big Pink???? See you Tuesday. I forgot to mention that if you didn’t want to ride your bike, that the #33 Fremont stops right in front of our building……see you early Tuesday!

I used to have a rad view of Mt. Hood from work, and then we moved offices and now we have a rad view of, wait for it, A PARKING LOT.
What’s awesome is that Chris and I actually trekked to the base of Mt. Hood this afternoon and it was amazing. (It was the first time we had both made the trip.) Also: cold. But still, breathtakingly beautiful, that mountain.

Over here for the first time and I am welcomed with an awesome mountain sunset! We don’t get that over here in our flat Dutchyland. Beautiful!

Though I’m having trouble adjusting to the cold after moving back to the PNW from SoCal, one of the things that I really love and missed are those stretches we go through where it’s just like you described. I don’t know if they are enough to make me forget always having great weather, but when it’s clear and dry like it’s been the past couple days, it’s so exhilarating it makes up for the crap we’ve put up with.

sometimes the only reason you get a pretty sunset is because of all the smog.
i’m just sayin’.

That’s a nice looking photo.
I’ve never found myself exactly where you found yourself — but just yesterday I was driving to work after a morning that had been heavy with mist. Snowly-looking ice had formed on all the trees and the snow on the ground still looked good (that is, not yet slushy) — and I regretted not having my camera.
