I got out of town last weekend, dragging myself from the computer and far out of the way of any cell phone antennas, which made me realize how damn often it is that I plug myself into the internet in one form or another. I twitched a few times from not being able to see what was happening on the twitter, but with the constant calming sound of a waterfall right next to our campsite I soon happily forgot that there was any world beyond what we could see through the trees.
It’s nice to check out every now and again, especially to spend time with some of your best friends.
It reminded me that I haven’t gotten in anywhere near the amount of recreation I’ve been wanting to this year, which is something I’ll have to remedy soon, because this whole showing up to work thing? Not real rewarding lately.
But you know, I’m happy places like this still exist and that the Pacific Northwest is still as rugged and beautiful as it is. Next summer is going to need far more days like the ones I had this weekend.

I think if you are planning more days like this next summer you should, yanno, get your own tent.
Or a better sleeping bag.

this reminds me that i didn’t go hiking once this summer. but i did do a lot of drinking, so that’s something.

I LOVE to camp, I’m so jealous right now. Pft!
I am going in 3 weeks, but still, you got to go first and I’m also stuck down here in the South. We have Appalachian Mtns., but it is not the same. When I finally get to visit PNW, I won’t need a hotel, I’m bringing my tent!

This actually makes me want to camp. Stop the presses! (I haven’t camped in at least 10 years.)

Excellent pictures! Lookit the fuzzy dogs!! I’m glad you got away for a bit. It heals the soul somehow, doesn’t it? We’re going weekend after next up into the Enchantments… if this fine weather holds. I’m a fair-weather back-packer, I’ll admit it.

kat, nature has its perks but drinking is always rewarding. okay, almost always.
beth, I know where to find some good spots for when you make it out here to go camping. and I’ve always kinda wanted to see the Appalachians….
sizzle, stop the presses indeed! we totally live in one of the most gorgeous regions in the country.
shari, yeah, but you’re a cold-weather snow-shoer so there.

Wow! So beautiful. I have never been camping before and that is something I need to change sometime soon.

As one who loves to go camping, I also didn’t go near enough this year.
And I’m also one that is attached to some form of internet connection at all times. Going camping helps me break that, as I find that I really enjoy the outdoors more than twittering or reading email.
Wait… what am I saying? lol

Looks like fun. Everytime I get out hiking or camping I wonder why it took me so long to get away from the house and the hum drum of life.
We’ll be going to check out some new hikes in pnw up near North Bend this weekend. Also, I want to go out to the Olympic Forest and check out some trails. There’s a lot of WA that I haven’t seen even though I’ve lived here most of my life.

I love the shot of the two dogs sitting together. That is so cute. That waterfall is spectacular. Getting out into the wild like that is so energising. I would have loved it!

so glad you had a great time.

I love the pictures. I love the outdoors. Except for the bugs, I’m not a fan of bugs.

Late to the party, as usual, but I wanted to say that I LOVE these photos. I’ve never camped (I know) and haven’t felt a gaping void in my life because of it, but have recently wanted to try it. I say we grab Sizzle and KerriAnne and beer and make it a camp blogger weekend. (Or maybe just one night.)
