The Scene: Lunch on a Saturday afternoon at Laughing Planet on NW 21st in Portland. This little eatery is known for decorating the inside with toy monsters like the ones above, and having toy dinosaurs on all the tables. Sarah and I had just finished our lunch and were sitting at our table on the patio, enjoying the weather. A group of three hipsters came out looking for a place to sit — since we had the biggest table and were done, we told them they could have our table. After putting our plates and glasses in the bus tub inside we exited through the patio and passed them again.
Hipster Girl: Hey, did you forget Stego? [holds up dinosaur and waves it in the air.]
Me: What? Oh, no — it’s not ours.
Sarah: It was there already; it comes with the table.
[As we walk off I start snickering.]
Sarah: What’s so funny?
Me: She called it Stego, like she thought it was a stegosaurus, but it was CLEARLY a styracosaurus! Ha!
Me: I mean, styracosaurus didn’t even appear until the late Cretaceous! MILLIONS of years after the stegosaurus!
Me: …um, never mind.
