remnants
Like a few other older cities, Portland still retains the metal rings on its sidewalks that were used early last century where people could hitch their horses. A few years back, a local artist began hitching tiny horses to the rings around town. I found this one on Saturday morning as I made my way around town during the brief respite from our mid-spring hailstorms.
You can read more about the Horse Project here.
That’s pretty freaking cool. I love quirky art projects like that, tying us into history. And horse rings.
My artistic statement would be to go around town to all the horsies and put little cowboys on top of them.
HAY, stop HORSING around.
ooohhh, HORSE project. I always thought it was the WHORES project.
um, yeah, i guessss i’ll check it out.
That’s pretty rockin’.
I wonder if I could get the constituents of Irvine to do the same? Hahaha, riiiight.
Oh sure… glorify the total domination of the horse race.
What a cute idea. So why the long face?
Very cool.
The little town I grew up in used to have a post with a ring on it for the same thing. There was also a concrete step that I’d been told was for helping people climb up into a wagon. This would have been in the mid 70s … I should check to see if the items are still there.
Cross-reference my blog, because I can.

I’ll get the dozen or so “horsey” photos I have collected up and going on the new blog in a few weeks.
